Interpretation Manager

The Interpretation Manager will be responsible for overseeing the Collections and Learning teams to develop and deliver a varied and focused public programme, with direct line management responsibility for three staff and overall management of a wider team of 15.

The Interpretation Manager will lead on the delivery of two new permanent exhibitions at the Food Museum, building on the work that has already been done during the development stage of our National Lottery Heritage Fund-supported project. They will work with staff, an external exhibition designer and the architectural team to procure and project manage the new exhibitions. They will undertake content and object research, grow partnerships, write text, commission AV and champion accessible and inclusive design.

Operations Manager

We are looking for an individual who is committed to the Food Museum’s mission of connecting visitors with where their food comes from and can help us to model this on our own land. You will have practical skills in either horticulture or agriculture, with at least five years of professional experience. You will be deeply interested and engaged with current debates on agriculture, horticulture and conservation, and committed to sharing your knowledge with others.

You will need to be an effective people manager, able to motivate staff and volunteers with a range of abilities and experiences. You will be an organised person who thrives on getting into the detail, but who also is effective at driving forward change and thinks strategically and realistically about how change can be implemented.

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will manage the museum’s volunteering programmes. They will implement and develop the volunteering strategy and be the first point of contact for volunteers. They will represent the museum, build partnerships and share and promote the museum’s work to grow volunteering.

Personal Assistant

The post-holder will support the Museum Director with diary management, administration and project reporting.

The Food Museum is about to start delivery of The Kitchen Project, a multi-year programme of activities and capital works. The project will deliver 5 years of exciting and engaging collaborative programmes of activities and exhibitions, including creating new opportunities for volunteering. It will transform the presentation of a series of buildings on the museum’s large 84-acre site. This includes re-presenting a historic Victorian factory space, the Grade II* Queen Anne House Abbot’s Hall and our Grade II* Medieval Barn. Maker

The Maker will work with volunteers (known as ‘Sharers’) to engage visitors with the process of making food on a cottage industry scale. You will make traditional, simple products for use in the learning programme, in our café and for sale in the museum shop. You will initially be based out of Crowe Street Cottage (The Dairy) and the bread oven, and you will work across other buildings on site after the permanent exhibitions are created in 2027. Working closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, you will build the museum’s volunteering programme according to the Volunteering Plan.

Collections Mover

The purpose of the post is to help us to move objects back into our newly refurbished Collections Store. The Collections Mover will work as part of a team to move and record a wide variety of objects of all shapes and sizes as part of the museum’s collections storage upgrades and improvements to our collections care.
