The big day is almost here, we’ll be opening our brand new play area to the public on Saturday 18 July, after our exclusive member-only launch event on Friday 17 July.

Deputy Director Samantha Prince explains:

“We are thrilled to be opening our new play area, a natural playscape for children to enjoy within the grounds of the Food Museum. This has been something many visitors have asked for, and a great addition to a day out here at the museum. After a period of consultation with local school children and families, we worked with our play area designers to create something unique to our site that allows children of all ages to benefit from. From the thrilling zip wire to our accessible slide, the wasp nest tower and the quiet spaces in the willow structures, there are so many elements to this play area that all will be able to enjoy.

We have also commissioned the street artist ATM to create some pieces of art to enhance the play area and showcase some of the insects and bugs that are important to the food chain, but not as celebrated as others. Look out for the lacewing fly, beetle, worm and others keeping watch over our brilliant new addition to our museum site”.
