Name/TitleSet of shelves
About this objectPart of a set of wooden shelves, these were fixed to the front wall of the West Row Forge, which was worked by four generations of the family of the donor's late husband.
This example has 4 shelves, one of which is divided into 3 sections.
The donor's husband was apprenticed to his father from the age of 12, at a time when his father had two of his own brothers also working with him. He took over the business after his father's death, but trade declined owing to the decrease in the number of horses on the land, and c. 1950 he gave up altogether and went into farming instead.
