This was amongst the tools in the West Row Forge, which had been worked by the family of the donor’s husband (Arthur Charles Ford, 1892 - 1973) for four generations. Mr Ford was apprenticed to his father at the age of 12, at a time when his father also had two of his own brothers working with him. He took over the business after his father died, but the decrease in the number of horses used on farms caused a great decline in trade, and c. 1950 he gave up the forge and went into farming instead
