Name/TitleBlueprint Document
About this objectA folded blueprint for an attachment for an 8BT mower, Fordson tractor. Found in a toolbox while sorting material when selling the farm. The farm had been in the family since 1933, the donor having farmed it since 1959 onwards.
The 8BT hay cutting mower was manufactured by the Harrison McGregor Company in Lancashire from 1935 to the late 1940s. It was designed to be pulled by a tractor and had a cutting knife of up to 7 feet wide. In operation, the mower had two knives, placed one on top of the other and pulled in opposite directions, giving a shearing action.
This blueprint is probably an independent commission from engineers, J.J. Pilkington, to design a bespoke attachment to the mower for connecting it to a Fordson tractor, used on the farm.
