Name/TitleRat Trap
About this objectA cage like apparatus made of wire, with an opening at one end. There are weighted platforms in the cage which, when dropped, leads into a smaller interior section. There is a wire opening at the other end of the cage to enable the dead rodent to be removed. It has a carrying handle at the top of the cage.
The trap was owned by the donor's father who used it whilst employed as a gardener at Pentlow Hall, Pentlow, Essex, and previously when he worked on farms in the Glemsford area of Suffolk in the 1920's. Just prior to donation (c.1988) it was also used to recapture a pair of escaped gerbils. It is claimed to be over 100 years old.
