About this objectThis is a beige underskirt, hand and machine stitched, with a front and back centre panel, and with most of the fullness and shaping at the back. The waistband has a rough edge and was formed by turning under a narrow fold which was then stitched in place by hand. It has taped loops at either side. The opening is to the left and fastened with one hook and eye.
This is part of the collection of clothes belonging to Misses D. and M. Burling, of Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire, who were aunts of the donor. The clothes were made by the Hancock family at The Laurels Swaffham Bulbeck in 1850 - 1900, who were members of a farming family.
