About this objectThis is part of the collection of clothes belonging to the two aunts of the donor. The clothes were owned by a farming family from 1850 to 1900. This item is an aubergine coloured velvet jacket/bodice, with a tape attached at the centre back to make a tie fastening at the front under the skirt. The sleeves are full, with a deep 8.5cms cuff. The neckline is faced with a detachable washable strip of calico(?) and edged with broderie anglasie. The front is fastened with hooks on the left side onto hand-sewn loops in pairs on the right. A self-coloured, ragged piece of material was pinned inside with 2 rusty pins and 2 rusty safety pins.
