About this objectA sickle with a fullered blade. The original handle of the tool has been lost and replaced by a crude wooden one. One side of the blade has been stamped with the name 'BOOTH' whereas the reverse side has been stamped with the initials 'R. W.' According to the donor, this sickle was found when the thatch roof of his house Polstead was replaced in 1951. The roof had been topped in 1939 by master thatcher, Mr Death, who asserted that the thatch had not been removed prior to this for very many years. Mr Bragg, F.R.I.B.A. says that the house was built in 1550 and had once been a public house called the Six Bells.
