About this objectVat for cheese making, used by the donor's grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Emily Munnings, at Mendham Mill. Also used by the donor's mother, Mrs. Mary Munnings, at Weybread. Used from the late 19C. to the first quarter of the 20C. Also occasionally used by the donor at Fressingfield after her marriage in 1940.
It was used to hold the curd to drain.
The vat is in two parts, the mould and lid. The mould has five drainage holes in the base. Its lid has a peg inserted at right angles near the rim to facilitate removing the lid from the vessel when empty.
