About this objectThe tool is heavy for its size and is missing its handle. The sub-rectangular blade has a circular notch on one side, near the cutting edge. The notch may be a result of adaptation from a previous implement, and have no significance in relation to its use as a weeding tool.
This is one of a small collection of tools which the donor had from his father's farm Hungriff Hall, Hawkedon, Bury St Edmunds. His father, Mr R.C. Marsh died in 1954, aged 70. The farm had been in the family for generations and the tools would have been used by farmworkers.
