Name/TitleBiscuit tin
About this objectThis is circular tin. Like all the other biscuit tins in the cottage (see 135-138), this was kept in a stack in a cabinet which formerly stood in the kitchen between the table and the back door, but unlike the others, which had been Christmas gifts from the Misses V & E Longe, of Abbot's Hall, this was given to Mrs Wilding for Christmas (1974?) by friends. When the tin was empty, Mrs. Wilding used to keep in it shortbread biscuits made by herself (to the same recipe she used when a cook at Abbot's Hall 1921-1929).
Mrs. Wilding's Recipe
6 ozs. plain flour
4 ozs. butter
2 ozs. ground rice
2 ozs. caster sugar
The biscuits were rolled out 1/2 inch thick and out with a pastry cutter. Each was decorated with a piece of glace cherry before being put into the oven at 400°F for 15 minutes, the oven was turned off but the biscuits were left in for the last few minutes
Inscription and MarksAround the sides is stamped 'CRAWFORD'S SCOTCH SHORTBREAD ( twice) ; and 'GOOD LUCK' on the ribbon round a bunch of heather. The lid is dented.
