Name/TitleSickle
About this objectAn iron sickle used to cut corn. This sickle was dug up by the donor in his garden in Lower Ufford. Judging from the bevel, it appears to be a left-handed example. The tong of the tool is relatively long (4 inches) and could either have been made for use with a long handle, or made to run the whole length of a short handle, with the end of the tang bent over to secure it. The blade was originally serrated - traces of the serration are still visible, though the blade is largely corroded. The handle is missing.
