About this objectMade of iron and used by the donor's father, who was a farmer and a horse-breaker. This is probably a horse-breaking bit, and was used at Chase Farm, West Bergholt, Essex. One side of the mouthpiece is ridged. The side pieces swivel on the mouthpiece. A chain is attached to the lower ring of one sidepiece, and a leather strap to the other.
