About this objectUsed by a hay and straw merchant for obtaining samples from a loose stack of hay or straw. This would have been used before the days of baling, therefore the object predates the 1930's. It consists of an iron rod in 3 equal sections which which screw into each other and when not in use can be dismantled to fit into a leather case into which the handle is strapped .
