Name/TitleHorse tooth extractor
About this objectThis was used by the donor's father, who was a veterinary surgeon in the First World War and later at Long Melford. The jaws were set in the tooth and closed by means of the wing nut. The tooth was then extracted by twisting, as in the earlier model with hinged claw. Extra pressure was gained by using a detachable key. Made of plated steel, it is stamped on the nut with "5" and on the clamp of the jaws with "4".
