Name/TitleBox Drill
About this objectThis box drill was used at Barrard's Hall, Whatfield.
It consists of a wooden box with lid divided into two sections, sliding out for insertion of the seed. The lid is fitted with 16 copper slides, with holes in various combinations to regulate the flow of seed. The lid has projecting lugs to facilitate opening.
In use, the box was reversed, suspended from the neck and oscillated to expel seed. (The 'lid' in this case is really the underside of the drill).
