Name/TitleSingle-Handed Scythe
About this objectA single-handed scythe with a steel blade and ash snead. The blade seems to be attached to the sneed by an adjustable collar and bolts, with intermediate clips. The snead, partly bound with twine, has a rectangular section at the blade end for 1 foot 6 inches, then it is oval in section.
This scythe was used by the donor’s father-in-law (a former superintendent for Suffolk police), mostly likely for grass-cutting rather than for harvesting in the proper sense.
