Name/TitleScythe Cradle
About this objectA scythe-cradle used by the father of the donor's former employee who resides in Worlingam, Beccles. The cradle was fastened to the scythe to collect the corn as it was cut. Made from ash, it has four tines dowelled into the arm, at the end of which is an iron hook. This hook was inserted into the socket of the scythe blade at the tip of the snead. A second, moveable arm is slotted at the free end, and this probably fitted onto a screw or peg in the snead, to which it was then tied, as indicated on either side of the slot.
