About this objectFive bills made out to Mr Rogers from JP Walton and Son Wine Merchants. The bills are for varying amounts and cover the period between 1899 and 1905.
JP Walton and Son were wine merchants, recorded in Kelly’s 1900 Directory of Suffolk, as trading from Hungate Street in Beccles. The company was established around 1890 from an earlier partnership known as Ward and Walton also of Beccles. Joseph Platt Walton was well respected locally and a one-time chairman of the Beccles Licensed Victuallers Association.
William Rogers took over, Boundary Farm, in the mid 1890’s and continued to farm there until after WW 2. The farm is still worked today and also caters for the holiday trade.
