Name/TitlePeat spade
About this objectThe spade was used for cutting peat or ditch banks, by the donor's father at their farm in Chilton in the early twentieth century. The donor also said that it was used for digging out a horse or other animal from the marsh. Mr Michael Delanoy from the Farmland Museum in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, comments that this type of spade was normally used for cutting banks or ditches in East Anglia rather that for cutting peat.
