About this objectThe machine was used for grinding cabbage leaves, stumps, potatoes and peelings, turnips, parsnips and odds and ends of every description. The object number is written in the centre of the support on the side without the handle. The machine comprises a hopper, supports, a drum with blades , 3 rows of 6, and a handle turning at right angles at 7 inches and again at 5 1/2 inches.
Messrs. Young & Son write to say that the machine was made by them during the war for utilising waste food, but on a page from their catalogue issued at that time it is stated that it had been made used and sold for over 30years. One satisfied user from Devon writes that he used it for cider apples. Prices at the time of the catalogue - 20/- plus carriage (20/- = shillings and was £1)
