Name/TitlePlough (RNE7)
About this objectBlue-painted plough with red wheels. The spanner is present on this example.
A note by Mr W.R. Bell of Ransomes says: "This is a Newcastle Match Plough which belonged to Mr George Johnston and after his death it was brought back to Ipswich. Mr Johnston joined the Company in 1920 as an expert ploughman, and was a very successful competitor at ploughing matches. It is not possible to fix the date of the plough itself, but it was a development of the RNE originally introduced in 1864 and we find in a 1914 catalogue that it was then known as the RNE4. There is then a gap in our records, but the mark had become RNE7 by 1930".
