About this objectThis is a horse-drawn seed drill. The steerage wheels are wooden and of a very early date, with 12 spokes. Two of the 14 hoppers are missing. The wheels have 14 spokes.The box is painted blue, the carriage red, and some levers etc. are pale blue. The donor had the pommel trees used with it.
It was used from c.1830 and it was shown at the Royal Show, Cambridge c.1957.
To cover a whole stretch it had "pup" drills on either side. This was used by the donor, his father(who took it over in 1909) and his grandfather. The donor has some of the extra fittings.
Compensating gear and one 'pup' barrel and roll were added to the gift.
