About this objectThis veterinary tool was used in the 19th and 20th centuries, to open a horse's mouth for examination and to put the tongue aside whilst administering medicinal pills. It was used at Creeting, near Stowmarket. The handle is badly worm eaten. It is rectangular in section, tapering at the distal whorls.
