About this objectThis comprises a rectangular box, the upper surface is rounded with holes at each end to allow pins to protrude, these are attached to spring hooks which take the reins. Pressure on the springs caused the pins to prick the cheeks. It was used on hard-mouthed horses.
It was used from the late 19th century onwards by the donor's father, John Finbow, at Mendlesham.
