Name/TitleBullock cart
About this objectThis is a one horse drawn bullock cart, similar to many being used in the area at the time but of a rather superior quality, which is painted dark green with faded red shafts and wheels.
It could transport up to 6 small animals, 2 horses, or 3 or 4 cows to market in Ipswich (some six miles away). This journey would be made most weeks. It has also been used in preference to the Market Cart (A.702) when a large number of pigs was to be transported.
Another typical use was for taking cattle from one pasture to another after hedges between fields had been removed, and it was, therefore, no longer possible to drive them to their new pasture. It passed out of use in the early 1930's.
