Name/TitleHay Toppler
About this objectHay toppler, used for turning hay to assist in the drying process.
In Douglas Lawson Hand to the Plough it refers to “Haymaker or Hay Tedder This is just one of the 25,000 or so haymakers made and sold by Blackstone of Stamford around the 1890’s who said, ‘It is no uncommon occurrence for these machines to work in heavy crops for ten or twelve years without costing as much as one shilling for repairs.’ The cost at that time for an 8’ 42 machine was £17.7.0d. This particular machine looks very much at home against the background sweep of woodland and chequered hillside.”
