Name/TitleButter churn
About this objectThis was used on the farm of Abbot's Hall, Stowmarket, during the time of the donor's father (1903-1949).
This is an unfamiliar type, designed to turn horizontally, not vertically. In section, the body is sub-triangular, not circular.
The stand is missing, as is the door to the aperture.
A churn similar to this in form, but made by G. Lleweyn & Son of Haverfordwest, is illustrated in the Country Gentleman's Catalogue of 1894. It cost from £3.5s.0 to £8.15s.0, according to size.
