About this objectA white hive, with fittings, used at Scarlett's Farm, Essex in the 1940's - 1950's, for small swarms or queen rearing.
The hive contains 4 frames, the latter two being 'dummy' frames. One of the larger ones has combs remaining on it, while the other has the man-made base intact on which the bees will form their combs. The pointed roof is removable. At each end of the roof section there is a hole for the entry of the bees, covered by a cone-shaped tin cover, in which are a number of smaller holes.
