About this objectThis was used for turnip and seed by the donor's father, probably in the mid 19th. century.
The seed is contained in the drum, which is perforated with two parallel rows of small holes in the middle. The seed drops down through a wooden funnel below the drum into a groove made by the sharp iron bound wheel edge. The drum rotates with the wheel by means of a cord connecting the axle on the left side. The axles have two grooves to adjust sowing rates.
Medium and MaterialsPossibly made of ash, with an iron drum, iron hoops on the wheel rim and iron fittings.
