About this objectThis is a working specimen with a bag and fiddle bow. It is a patent hand sower, with the maker's name and address stamped on the back.
It is made of wood, painted red, with leather straps, a linen bag, an iron wheel and fittings. The leather strap was suspended round the neck and as the bow was moved backwards and forwards the wheel rotated to allow the passage of the seed out of the bag onto the ground (broadcast sowing).
