Name/TitleDry Plucking Machine - poultry
About this objectThis was used by the donor and his wife (circa 1975 to 1995) in their shed/outhouse at their home, to pluck chickens and turkeys. They purchased the machine second-hand in about 1975 from Thorpe-le-Soken.
They could process approximately 1000 turkeys per year and approximately 40 chickens/turkeys could be completed in a day.
The animal was held in front of turning blades which rough plucked the feathers, then they were finished by hand. The feathers were blown out through the funnel into an attached sack.
The object also includes spare blades and tool.
The donor supplied turkeys to butchers in Upminster, then sold a couple hundred 'at the gate'.
