About this objectThis Ransomes 1974 Hunter, two row, self-propelled machine could pull, top and tail, clean and store the sugar beet.
It is a massive machine with a frame of strong iron girders, which is divided into three sections; a front section, a middle section with driver's cab, and a rear section made to hold the harvested beet. It is faded pale blue and rusty. It was used at Felsham, Ipswich. A sister machine that was used in Lincolnshire is in the Science Museum Collection. This example has larger diameter transmission shafts, designed to cope with heavier Suffolk soils.
