About this objectMilk churn with handles either side. There is a hole in the centre of the lid into which is inserted a rod. At the end of the rod are two round plates, the lower one having two holes. The rod was used to stir up the milk. There is a tap at the bottom of the churn.
The dairy stopped using churns when bottles began to be used, although the churns were still cleaned once a week. Plungers were used to stir the milk when it had been stood for some time.
