Name/TitleMangle
About this objectMangle resembling that illustrated in M.Norwak, Kitchen Antiques (London 1975). Cast iron painted red and green with wooden roller, wooden drip tray and wooden boards either side of the rollers which can be positioned upright when not in use. On the frame is cast a floral pattern. Donated by the late Miss L. Colman late of 44, Lime Tree Place, Stowmarket. According to the donor the mangle was made at the Suffolk Iron Foundry, Stowmarket but this suggestion probably comes from the town name appearing on the inscription, which may be a supplier rather than maker. The mangle was in place at 44, Lime Tree Place in 1920 when it was bought by the sitting tenant, W.Wells, Ironmonger, who was Miss Colman's uncle.
