Name/TitleRug
About this objectA woollen cane made rug in two shades of grey, with blue ends, and red stars in the centre. It was made by the donor's father, pre-1914, whilst at sea with the Royal Marines. The rug was used at home in Woodbridge, in the living room by the fire, and then as a kitchen doormat.
The technique was to loosely stitch a cane over and over onto hessian, then stitch wool closely over the cane from one end to another. This is then repeated many times, then remove the cane. The wool 'tubes' are then left as loops or cut open.
