About this objectThe squat base of a spring weighing scale. This object is green and cream in colour, made of metal with a dial and a red wire needle. Inscribed on the front in white font, above the scale, is the brand name: SALTER. On the scale is printed 'No. 54 SALTER MADE IN ENGLAND', just below this are the measurements amounts going up in increments of 4 oz: '0, 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz, lb... 5 lb'.
These scales were manufactured during the 1950's by Salter and Co of West Bromwich. The company was formed in 1760 and rapidly became leading suppliers of springs, scales and balances and weighing equipment.
