Ruth Nieman – Freekeh, Wild Wheat and Ancient Grains

British cookbook writer Ruth Nieman joins us for the day to share her extensive knowledge of freekeh, an ancient, biblical, green grain popular in Middle Eastern and North African cuisines. Ruth will explore the history and culture of these grains and bring to life ancient recipes for modern cooks, particularly vegetarians and those interested in Middle Eastern cooking. In the morning she will be demonstrating how to cook and make bread with freekeh and in the afternoon she will join us for talk about her book Freekeh, Wild Wheat & Ancient Grains shortlisted for the prestigious André Simon Award 2021, including tasting sessions throughout the day.



Schedule of activities:

10.30am Drop-in and taste freekeh and bread making workshop suitable for all ages

1.30pm – 2.30pm Afternoon talk and book signing



The morning drop-in session is free to all-day ticket holders (When you buy a day ticket to the museum you are eligible to become a bronze annual pass holder, which entitles you to unlimited visits to the site and the buildings for 12 months)

£15  – Admission to the museum as above plus the afternoon talk

£30 – Admission to the museum as above, plus the talk and a signed copy of Ruth’s book Freekeh, Wild Wheat & Ancient Grains RRP £16.00
